Maundy Thursday Message

Today is Maundy Thursday, the day that Christians remember and commemorate Jesus' last supper with His friends, His washing of His disciples feet, as well His deep cries to our Heavenly Father in the Garden of Gethsemane.

(The Last Supper bing the very meal that we now emulate and call, Holy Communion, breaking of bread).

Christ's "mandate" is commemorated on Maundy Thursday; "maundy" being a shortened form of mandatum (Latin), which means "command."

It was on the Thursday of Christ's final week before being crucified and resurrected that He said this commandment to His disciples... Jesus and his disciples had just shared what was known as the Last Supper and he was washing their feet when he stated:

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.(John 13:34).

This week is so sacred to Christians, as we recall the very days leading up to and including Jesus' death on Calvary’s Cross on Good Friday and His glorious resurrection from death on Easter Sunday.

As Christians, this Holy Week we are called to to walk with Jesus intentionally to the cross and then onto His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

The best way to do this is to read the gospel accounts of these precious days.

These are the passages to read today (Maundy Thursday): John 13:1-17, Luke 22:14-23 and Luke 22:39-46.

Really seek to know Jesus and His incredibly great love for us.

Embrace the amazing gifts He secured for us through His death and resurrection: the gift of forgiveness and the promise of eternal life.

Appreciate afresh the door that Jesus opened for us to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Appreciate afresh what it cost Jesus to secure this all for us.
