Islamist MP killer suspect was 'Radicalised by Anjem Choudary'
Former friends of suspected MP killer, Ali Harbi Ali (picture below), have confirmed he watched videos on YouTube of hate preacher Anjem Choudary.
Ex-school friends of the alleged killer of MP Sir David Amess, who was stabbed to death during a surgery meeting on Friday afternoon, claimed he became "obsessed" with Choudary and watched videos of him.
British Islamist Choudary was jailed for five years and six months following a trial at the Old Bailey in 2016 after being deemed to have invited support of ISIS.
Convicted under section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000, Choudary was told by Mr Justice Holroyde he had "crossed the line between the legitimate expression of your own views and a criminal act".
After his release in 2018 he was banned from public speaking, though this was lifted in July.
A friend confirmed: “Choudary was someone he became utterly obsessed with."
Ali, who is currently being held at a London police station, is a British national with Somali heritage.
He is understood not to have been known as a subject of interest to security service MI5 ahead of the attack.
